The Lindenhurst PTA Council sponsored their annual Legislators Breakfast at Lindenhurst High School, which included Suffolk County Legislator Wayne Horsley, NYS Assemblyman Bob Sweeney, NYS Senator Owen Johnson, and a represeantative from NYS Senator Charles Fuschillo's office. Questions from the PTA, Students, and community organizations were directed to aour elected officials. I was the orator for the Lindenhurst Joint Civic Association.

Wanda McCabe honored for her Civic contributions

Wanda McCabe, President of the Heer Park Civic Association was feted by friends and family at the Sea Haven Restaurant for all her work in the community. Lindenhurst Mayor Tom Brennan presented Wanda with a proclamation and declared January 5, 2010, Wanda McCabe Day in the Village of Lindenhurst. Wanda will be truly missed by the community when she leaves for her new home in Florida.

The Island Symphony Orchestra String Ensemble performed Christmas Music at the Tanner Park Senior Center to the delight of all that attended. The Seniors from all the Town of Babylon Senior Centers enjoyed the concert immensely. Red Cross Road Rally

Tanner Park hosted the first Red Cross Road Rally from Yapank. The Copiague Chamber of Commerce was on hand for all the fun at this free event. There was something for everyone with the show cars on display and the bands playing throughout the day. There were amusements for the kids and local merchants on display.

The former "Jay and the Americans" singer has quite a devoted following in this area, and it was easy to see why. This group deserved the standing ovations it received.

The Lindenhurst Joint Civics Association has "adopted" windows of empty storefronts in town and put in artwork to improve the shopping areas visually.

Helping out in this effort is Emily Daub and her Mom Donna. Donna as a PTA member secured donated artworks from the students at the William Rall Elementary School which were put on display with Emily's assistance.

Thanks for the help in making Lindenhurst look beautiful.

What a great season it was. With the high price of gas it was nice that you could have a great "stay-cation" in your own backyard with the wonderful performances provided by the Town of Babylon.

The 5th Dimension Concert

The Fifth Dimension performed at the new bandshell at Tanner Park. It was a great show that was very well attended by the appreciative fans.

The bay breezes were not as balmy as they had been at the last few concerts, so the members of the Copiague Chamber of Commerce were concerned their tent would go "Up, Up and Away". It was taken down a little earlier than usual and everyone stayed well grounded.

Howard Jones Concert

A Fantastic performance was put on by Howard Jones (pictured right) at the new Tanner Park Bandshell.

Last night was Kenny Vance and the Planetones with another great concert.

We have been so blessed with great weather for the free outdoor concerts put on by the Town of Babylon and their sponsors.

The Inaugral Concert at the Tanner Park Bandshell

Steve Bellone cut the ribbon for the new Beach Hut restaurant at Tanner Park and then cut the ribbon for the new bandshell. There were many other elected officials and dignitaries on hand for the festivities. The Colorguard was from the Copiague Fire Department.

Al Jardine of the Beach Boys and his Endless Summer Band performed. Everyone had a wonderful time and the weather behaved for the electified crowd.

As you can see the parking lots have been paved and beautifully landscaped, The construction is still going on at the structure, but it looks like it will be ready for the July 4, concert of the Endless Summer Band with Al Jardine from the Beach Boys.

Paula Atherton Concert at Tanner Park

The first concert of the 2008 Summer Concert Series at Tanner Park started with the Paula Atherton Jazz Band.

Since the new band shell is not quite completed, the performance was held at the Beach Hut next door.

Copiague Kiwanis Cruise to Fire Island

What a wonderful evening everyone had who attended the Cruise to Fire Island with the Copiague Kiwanis.

The weather was absolutely fantastic and such great company. Many hearty souls climbed the tower to the top where you could make out the Manhattan skyline. I believe some are still trying to catch their breath. Doreen Berger of East Meadow was kind enough to take the picture of me on the right in front of the Lighthouse.

There were attendees from the Kiwanis Clubs of Amityville, Lindenhurst, and North Amityville. Fran Cassidy brought about 20 of her friends, and Marie Odell and Bridget Schwartz took care of the lovely baskets that were raffled off.

Summer 2008 Concert Schedule

The concerts are free, just bring a lawn chair.

Tanner Park Construction

I know you're curious, I certainly was. You want to know what is happening at Tanner Park, so I took photos while I was there.

The parking lots by the concession stand are all graded and will probably be paved soon.
The parking on the West side is further from completion. The frame is up on the bandshell. It is only 2 weeks away from it's scheduled opening.

American Venice Bridges

They repainted the Bridge in the American Venice yellow. It is a very pale yellow, a cross between a "lemon chiffon" and an ivory or eggshell, but a yellow nonetheless. I have never seen them anything but white.

They still look beautiful as they always do when freshly painted. They are truly one of the treasures of our South Shore.

Grand Opening of Sal Vito Bakery

The Copiague Chamber of Commerce recently held a ribbon cutting at one of it's newest members, Sal Vito Bakery located in the Merrineck Shopping Center on Montauk Highway at the foot of Great Neck Road.

salute to Veterans at the Tanner Park Senior Center. Quite a few Veterans came in uniform and each respective service was acknowledged. Everyone sang patriotic songs while the greatest generation was received by their peers. It was a wonderful way to thank the veterans for their service to our country.

The Ride for Life From Montauk to Manhattan to help cure Lou Gehrigs disease finished one leg of their tour in Copiague last week at Tanner Park. They were greeted with a reception hosted by the Copiague Chamber of Commerce. State Senator Owen Johnson and Town of Babylon Supervisor Steve Bellone were there to greet the crowd. The attendees were entertained by the Copiague Middle School Chorale Choir and band. This reception was made possible because of the generosity of Lady h20 Water, Target of Copiague, Sal's Fruit Tree and IGA.

Meridale Park Civic Association Scholarship Winner

At the Meridale Park Civic Association meeting held May 1, 2008. the winner of their annual scholarship award was announced.

The quality of this years applicants was outstanding, and the committee was gratified to see so many wonderful canidates living in their neighborhood. Also discussed at the meeting was the recent production of "Fools" performed at the high school. The performance was "5 stars" and the Jr. Marine Corps ROTC ushered the audience to their seats. It was gratifying to be at a meeting and discussing the quality of the youth in Lindenhurst.

And the scholarship winner is- "ta-da" -Kirsten Langan.

Republic Airport Press Conference

April 30, 2008, Town of Babylon Supervisor Steve Bellone held a press conference prior to the scoping meeting held at Republic Airport. Supervisor Bellone discussed the ongoing litigation between the town and the airportand the absence of a Master Plan.

The scoping meeting was to give the residents the opportunity to see the changes being made to Republic Airport, such as additional hangers and buildings, changing the runway, and building of tank farms.

Elections were held at the Copiague Chamber of Commerce this week. The meeting was held for the first time at the Boccacini Resturant on Montauk Highway. Sharon Fattoruso is now President replacing Anna Tambasco who did a wonderful job. Sal Puglia remains 1st Vice President, Tara Buckley became 2nd Vice President. Anna Chille remains Secretary, and Jerry O'Neill remains treasurer.

The five new directors chosen were Carol Bromm, Joseph Constentino, Sr., Jim Fox, Richard McGurn and Raymond Mora.

Pasta Dinner Fundraiser

Mangia! The Rotary Club is having a Pasta Dinner Fundraiser Friday, April 18, from 6 to 9 pm, at the Fireman's Park Pavillion.

The funds raised will go to various causes including housing 2 foreign doctors that will be training at Good Samaritain Hospital this Summer. There will also be raffles. It should be a lot of fun and you'll get to see your neighbors after the long winter.

The cost is $15 for adults and $7.50 for children.

Meridale Park Civic Association Meeting

The April civic association meeting for Meridale Park was held at the Village Court. The usual meeting room at the library was being used for the library election. Shawn Cullinane gave an in depth laptop presentation of the upcoming Village budget and took questions from the audience.

International Food Festival and Cedar Beach Car Show

The first International Food Festival will be held at Tanner Park October 18th and 19th, 2008. The preliminary plans sound great with all different kinds of food and entertainment. I will give more information when I get it.

The car show that was held at Overlook Beach last year, will be held at Cedar Beach this year because it will be even bigger. The date is Sunday, September 21, 2008.

A Day at the Races

The last Friday of the month is the Day at the Races at the Tanner Park Senior Center.

There are 6 races featured that the attendees can bet on. The horses move by the roll of the dice. It is a lot of fun.

Grand Re-Opening of Copiague Country Florist

Lousie and Robert Sidoti, owners of Copiague Country Florist, just re-located their store to 1700 Great Neck Road, Suite 103.

That the gorgeous brand new building on the corner of Oak Street. There is plenty of parking in front of the store, or at the Copiague Clock parking lot right across the street.

It is so convenient to stop in when getting off the train, or getting on the train when going to visit.
