International Food Festival and Cedar Beach Car Show

The first International Food Festival will be held at Tanner Park October 18th and 19th, 2008. The preliminary plans sound great with all different kinds of food and entertainment. I will give more information when I get it.

The car show that was held at Overlook Beach last year, will be held at Cedar Beach this year because it will be even bigger. The date is Sunday, September 21, 2008.

A Day at the Races

The last Friday of the month is the Day at the Races at the Tanner Park Senior Center.

There are 6 races featured that the attendees can bet on. The horses move by the roll of the dice. It is a lot of fun.

The jockeys shown here are Frances Maher, Natalie Williams, Mary Ferrara, and Mickey Meli.

Grand Re-Opening of Copiague Country Florist

Lousie and Robert Sidoti, owners of Copiague Country Florist, just re-located their store to 1700 Great Neck Road, Suite 103.

That the gorgeous brand new building on the corner of Oak Street. There is plenty of parking in front of the store, or at the Copiague Clock parking lot right across the street.

It is so convenient to stop in when getting off the train, or getting on the train when going to visit.

Stop by and "smell the roses"!

Grand Opening of Boccacini Restaurant

What a pleasure it was to take this picture of Carol Senisi and Bobby Healy at the Grand Opening of their Boccacini Restaurant located at 1038 Montauk Highway, Copiague. The aroma was wonderful.

The food is delicious and catering is also available. Stop in for a brick oven pizza. Their phone number is (631) 608-4664.

Famed New York Realtor Barbara Corcoran

I was invited by Joe Purschke of Wells Fargo Home Mortgage to hear Barbara Corcoran speak. She is the author of the bestseller If You Don't Have Big Breasts, Put Ribbons On Your Pigtails, and contibutor for NBC's Today Show, and CNBC, writes columns for the Daily New, Redbook and MORE Magazine.

Barbara remarked "You can't sharpshoot the lowest point of the Real Estate Market" and pointed out how cheap money and cheap inventory should get buyers to start buying instead of looking.

Joe P. is the man to contact if you are looking to finance a new home, or re-financee your present one. You can contact him at (631) 752-5078 or Joseph.F.Purschke@WellsFargo.com.

Flying home

Flying home from Orlando, I had the pleasure of sitting with Kenneth. He attends the Daniel Street School and is in Miss Baxter's class.

Kenneth was traveling with his Mom and Dad and sister returning from a Disney World vacation.

The Pointer Sisters

The Pointer Sisters were the entertainment for our final evening at the convention. They sure have a lot of energy. That's my head on the picture on the right. I still can't figure out these digital cameras.

Attention all Yankee Fans

The Irish Tennor, Ronan Tynan, our favorite singer at Yankee Stadium, gave a moving speech of growing up with deformities and training for the Olympics as a disabled athlete.

His fascinating life included becoming a doctor and some funny mishaps while performing opera.

He not only inspired us all, but sang for us too!

Suze Orman

Financial maven Suze Orman was a featured speaker at the Century21 Convention. A few of her words of wisdom:
Although housing is an investment commodity such as stocks or oil, you cannot live in a stock certificate or a barrel of oil.
If you purchased a home for $100,000 and put $20,000 (20%) down, and the home increases in value by 4% (typical per year), you really earned 20% on your investment of $20,000.
Call me at 631 226-5995 x 208, if you need that explained to you.

Century21 Convention in Orlando

Century21 had their International Convention at the Gaylord Palms Hotel and Convention Center in Orlando. The temperature was 80 degrees in the days preceding the convention, so I packed accordingly. When we arrived the temperature went into the 40's and was down to 35 degrees that night. Thank goodness the hotel is in an enclosed dome so it was still tropical inside.
Amist the lush vegetation are waterways with alligators and koi and on the right is an unusual spotted fish. That is fellow agent Lucy Kearly in the center enjoying a lovely lunch with me in the hotel atrium.

The Convent for the Sisters of St. Joseph at Our Lady of Lourdes Church is desperately in need of a new roof. The Convent and Chapel is not only a home for the Sisters, it also serves the many ministries and members of the community. Renovations would also benefit the parish support groups, such as the bereavement ministries and the support groups that meet in the convent basement, Lourdes Hall.

You can pick up and drop off your entry at the Parish Office or mail your entry to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 455 Hunter Avenue, West Islip, NY 11795.

February Copiague Chamber of Commerce meeting

The Copiague Chamber of Commerce and the Copiague Kiwanias held a joint meeting at Bellissimo's in Amityville on Tuesday, February 26.

Steve Bellone, the Town of Babylon Supervisor was the featured speaker. Some of the many topics he covered was the expansion of Copiague Gateway Park (on the Southwest corner of Dixon Avenue and Great Neck Road) and the million bulb plan for the Town of Babylon. The Town has planted 500,00 bulbs so far and want to do the same this year. Steve also had the drawing of the proposed bandshell for Tanner Park.
